Suzanne Slade

Suzanne is a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist working with children, adolescents and families. She is registered on the UKCP specialist register for psychotherapists qualified to work with children and young people. Suzanne is currently on maternity leave. We have been joined by Jenny Cox who is also a psychotherapists qualified to work with children and young people.

Child psychotherapists work with children who may be struggling with any of the following - emotional or behavioural difficulties, bereavement, anxiety, school refusal, self-harm, eating disorders, attachment difficulties, abuse, ADHD, ASD/Autism, bullying, depression, or peer and relationship difficulties. Psychotherapy with children is not the same as therapy with adults - children often struggle to articulate their feelings verbally and communicate inner turmoil through behaviour, which can alert the adults in their life at school or at home that something is not right. Suzanne uses a variety of media including art, sand tray, drama, poetry, storytelling and music to access a child's thoughts and feelings. Much of the therapeutic work happens through the metaphor of play.

Suzanne has worked in a variety of clinical settings including CAMHS, community counselling services, and the school-based charity Place2Be. Suzanne also practices Equine Assisted Psychotherapy in East Sussex and Kent, working with horses to bring new insight to the therapeutic work with children and groups. Prior to training as a Psychotherapist, Suzanne had a 12 year career within the Financial Services industry.
