Jennifer Cox - The Maris Practice

Jennifer Cox

Jennifer is a Integrative Child Psychotherapist and Counsellor working with children, adolescents and families. She is registered member of BACP and IATE with an MA in Integrative Child Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Counselling. Her previous job was as a primary school teacher so she has a lot of experience working with children.

Child psychotherapists work therapeutically with children who may be struggling with any of the following - emotional or behavioural difficulties, bereavement, anxiety, divorce and separation, low self-esteem, self-harm, eating disorders, anger management issues and challenging behaviour, abuse, ADHD, ASD/Autism, bullying, depression, or peer and relationship difficulties. Psychotherapy with children is not the same as therapy with adults - children often struggle to articulate their feelings verbally and communicate inner turmoil through behaviour, which can alert the adults in their life at school or at home that something is not right. Jennifer uses a variety of media including art materials, sand tray and puppets to access a child's thoughts and feelings. Much of the therapeutic work happens through the metaphor of play.

Jennifer's integrative framework approach combines different approaches such as Psychodynamic, Relational, Humanistic, Solution focused, CBT, Neuroscience and Attachment based. She varies the methods to meet the needs of her client.
