Charles Bourne - The Maris Practice

Charles Bourne

Charles Bourne studied acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine. He subsequently undertook further training in Tuina (Chinese Massage) in both the UK and China, including training at Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and UK register of Tuina Chinese Massage. Acupuncture and Tuina are based on the same Chinese Medical principles and Charles often combines the two modalities in his treatments.

Charles has a long-standing involvement in sport. He is a former international rower and has worked as a professional rowing coach at St Paul's School in Barnes since 2004. He has worked with athletes of all abilities from recreational to international standard.

In his treatment of sports injuries Charles draws on his knowledge of biomechanics and exercise programs and combines this with a holistic assessment of one’s overall health based on Chinese Medical Principles in order to put together a tailored treatment and rehabilitation plan

Apart from his clinical practice Charles maintains an academic interest in the conceptual foundations of complementary medicine and the cultivation of wellbeing through bodily awareness and movement. He recently contributed a chapter to the book Spiritual Healing: Scientific and Religious Perspectives, published by Cambridge University Press.
