Homeopathy – proof is in the scientific research

Homeopathy – proof is in the scientific research

Do you have your doubts about the efficacy of homeopathic treatment? Or are you looking for evidence to persuade family members to seek advice with their medical issues?

Well in 2005 a German / Swiss study was completed into the impacts of homeopathic treatments on patients both within the short-term (3 months) and long-term (1 and 2 years). This work found that ‘Disease severity and quality of life demonstrated marked and sustained improvements following homeopathic treatment period. Our findings indicate that homeopathic medical therapy may play a beneficial role in the long-term care of patients with chronic diseases.

Just under 4,000 patients were studied of which approximately 2,800 were adults and the rest children. The vast majority (97%) of the patient’s complaints were long-term chronic illnesses (with an average duration of nearly 9 years). The most common illnesses were allergic rhinitis for male adults, headaches for female adults, and in the children atopic dermatitis. Over 95% of the patients had sought conventional medical treatments for their condition.

The participants completed a standardised evaluation questionnaire when first meeting their physician and then again at 3 months, 1 year and 2 years after homeopathic treatment, with questions that covered patient and physician assessments (using a numeric scale) and quality of life. Significant improvements were demonstrated in quality of life during the initial 3 months of treatment. During the subsequent months, disease severity was seen to reduce dramatically, with over 20% of patients reporting that their illness was no longer present by 2 years.
